Unwelcomed Visitor (Lento)

by Meena Krish   Aug 18, 2009

There is a visitor who comes to each home
his unwelcome appearance is not a healthy sign
where he stays he creates a sickening dome
is unfortunate when we become his play design

Adults and children fall victim to his atrocities
some pay with lives leaving behind waves of blue
cults of fear he generates in all the cities
come what may we will fight this swine flu

Lento consists of two quatrains with a fixed rhyme scheme of abcb, defe. The second and fourth lines of each stanza must rhyme. To take it a step further, try
rhyming the first and third lines as well as the second and fourth lines of each stanza in this rhyming pattern: abab, cdcd. The FIRST words of each verse should rhyme. this is the hard part!
There is no fixed syllable structure to the Lento, but
keeping a good, flowing rhythm is recommend

Well said. This is one visitor that I hope does not visit my home, nor his brother, the regular seasonal flu.

All through the poem I was thinking "who could it be about?????"and then I read the last two words, lol!
