Littleman

by Michael D Nalley   Aug 27, 2009

In remembrance of the little big man
How he danced and how he ran
With the fallen angels that often roam,
But he always seemed to get back home

I really don't know how, or where to begin
He was as cute as Toto, brave as Rin-Tin-Tin
There's only one way to describe loyalty to the end
Naturally I would have to say my very best friend

Never acting as if he did not have a care
By the call of the wild he was always there
When it was time to ride he thought what a treat
He would dance a little jig with his happy feet

Lord, if I should die before I were to wake
Take care of Littleman and his buddy Jake
Some creatures give more than they take
As they wonder toward home for heaven sake

Lord, it hurts to see innocence suffer more than it should
This has always been something I never understood
Is not pain only for the wicked and not the good
I thought every debt was paid for on a cross of wood

In my heart the Lord kindly spoke with a smile
It has really been this way for quite a while
The server suffers with the master as if they were one
It is finished and only over when His will is done

Michael this is a wonderful poem, cleverly contracted, strong and flows so well. A great read.

This was quite an inspiring poem, despite its sad nature. For some reason I smiled at the mention of Toto and Rin-Tin-Tin - I think sometimes when characters who we are familiar with are mentioned, it helps to relate to the poem in a greater way?

^^ This was my favourite stanza, particularly the first line. I think because it's such a strong message and something that I and I'm sure millions around the world have strong feelings about. The innocents around us are affected by tragedy and evil every day; sometimes we question why the good side seems to be punished more than the bad, y'know?

Overall I really enjoyed the poem; it made me think and it made me smile. It also made me cry.

    Nicely done. :)

'little big man' that is a contradiction and a syntax error all in the same, perhaps try re-wording it.

Other than that small minor error, I thought this a was a heartfelt write that came straight from your heart. Nice write, Keep up the good work.

    Hey,
    i really felt it.
    I am
    so attached to my dog,
if she was to be hurt in
any way, i would feel like a piece of me was
    ripped out of my chest.
and getting down to the end, i knew just where you
    wanted to go,
    it was lovely. (sad, but)
    really, lovely
