A Soldier's Little Girl

by Splashley   Aug 31, 2009

I met this girl who waved goodbye to her dad. Her eyes were all puffy and red and tears kept streaming down her face.. She said this was the hardest part of being a soldier's daughter. He was being sent away and no one could stop it.. She did all she could. She stood there by the fence and watched him walk away. She cried.. "I love you daddy" but he was already gone.. Every night she could sit by the TV and watch the news. She always wondered how her dad was doing and when he's coming back home.

2 years passed.. He still hasn't made it home yet. Her sweet sixteen is right around the corner. But her only wish was to have her dad with her. She didn't care about the party, the cake, the presents.. She just wanted HER pride and joy.. HER American Hero.. He didn't make it home that night.. But he sent her a birthday card saying he loves her and that he wishes he could be with her, but duty calls.. He has to make America free again..

Another 2 years pass. It's her graduation night. She never gave up on her dad. She kept wishing and praying that he would come back. She starts walking down the aisle with her classmates. They call her name and she gets her diploma. Suddenly, her mother gets a phone call. She walks out to the hall and comes back holding the hand of an American Soldier. The girl starts running to see her dad. Tears fall just like they did 4 years ago when she had to say goodbye. He whispers in her ear.."Hunny, I'm not leaving anymore".. To this day, he hasn't broken his promise..
