Domestic Violence

by Amy   Jun 14, 2004

All alone in his room
sitting deep in thought
about all the things
that he had been taught

In the other room
his parents scream and yell
the arguments about him
he can just tell

His dad shouts
about him failing class
he hears him say
he isn't smart enough to pass

His mum yells back
that tries his best
its not his fault
he cant keep up with the rest

They keep at it for hours
every word stings
do they know he can hear them
and how much pain it brings

He needs to get away
he cant stay here anymore
he grabs his backpack
and walks out the door

His dad stops him in the hall
and wont let him out
he tries to push past
his dad yells and shouts

His mum interferes
and gets slapped in the face
he helps her up
and makes sure shes safe

He retreats back to his room
to avoid getting hit
hes lost all his hope
hes just about to quit

He cant handle it
and he can no longer stay here
he cant keep on living
his life in fear

He climbs out the window
jumps to the ground
as hes walking away
he hears a terrible sound

A blood curdling scream
runs chills down his spine
he had a feeling of dread
that his dad had crossed the line

But he kept on walking
he roamed the streets
didn't stop once
all night on his feet

He snuck back to his house
just to see if he was missed
but when he got there
he curled up his fist

Flashing lights
sirens and confusion
this couldn't be happening
it must be an illusion

He pushed past the cops
and crossed the red tape
this was all his fault
why did he escape?

Blood on the walls
smell of death in the air
staring at his mothers body
just lying lifeless there

He fell to his knees
lost in despair
his dad killed his mum
because he hadn't been there

He found a note
just lying on the floor
written with blood
it chilled him to the core

Dear Son
Before i die
I had to tell you i love you
Please don't cry
I'm happier now
In a place without pain
I'm sorry your father
Always gave you the blame
I wasn't a very good mum
But still remember its true
No matter what happens
I will always love you
Be good my angel
Your dad loves you too
Even though he doesn't show it
Just know its true

He will always remember
the tragic day
it was his fault
his mother was taken away
