An Ode to December

by Poet on the Piano   Sep 6, 2009

My cherished December,

I long for the moment when my soul will be freed from all chains, when it will fly carelessly through your skies. Your words, a lulling melody, will carry it swiftly across the lands, 'til it rests peacefully among soothing clouds. After lazy summer evenings you will awaken the earth with your refreshing breath, emitting new hope into the air. You will sprinkle the fruits of your spirit on the soil, where memories will flourish.

Many feel drowsy and lonely in your presence, but their hearts are not fully open. Many fear the chill that forces them to hide in solitude, but they have no reason to hide. Many are overwhelmed by the power you bring and create, but not I.

You provide mankind with many delights to keep us satisfied. Your hills arch perfectly for children to sled down, laughing along with them. Your snow softens to be played with, smiling all the way. Your trees glisten with pride, making it seem more like a dreamworld, an ice land.

If only we could waltz together for years, continuously spinning under your sons and daughters, our bodies rejoicing in a rhythm one will never forget. You have shaped me into one of your own, you have kindled me in your shadow. When night falls you send out a guardian of the night, to cradle me 'til I fall asleep in his arms.

I have fallen in love with your smile, how it sneaks up in the daylight and rests on my lips, where I feel a sense of immediate joy.

I have fallen in love with your voice, shaking the mountains and running through the rivers, reaching me with velvet words.

I have fallen in love with your face, high rosy cheeks blushing happily at the idea of you and I.

I have fallen in love with your eyes, glittering and telling me tales of your past, speaking only truth.

I have fallen in love with your soul, how I can never escape the essence of you. You are my everything, all that I will be 'til the day I become your passionate companion.

Someday I will join you in the heavens where you reign, and we shall rule the winter together united as one. Until then, I send all of me and all that I have directly to you, my burning flame that ignites passion into my weakening heart.

Your faithfully beloved,

MaryAnne

This was a challenge from another poetry website I am a member of. The challenge was to write a letter to your favorite month, expressing and telling why it is your favorite month. This is something very different that I have written, instead of poetry I have written prose, so I did the best I could. I hope you all enjoyed this piece, thank you all and God bless you!
