The songs of darkness and light pt1

by Rocky   Sep 7, 2009

Part 1

Descent into darkness

I stand alone
As I cry
Beneath these careless Stars of night
Without a hope
Within my mind
I merely await
the suns first light
The hated herald
Of the sad day to come
When I shall leave them all behind
To run so very far away
But now
There is nothing left for me to do
There are no magic words Left
For me to say
I can but cry my sorrow
Unto the silent moon
How could this all have gone
So terribly astray

All night
I had watched the pieces
Weave together
To summon the dawn
Of this tragic day
I had held my breath
For what had felt forever
Knowing that only
These Brief hours remain
But still those hours
Had flown into the never
As the final moment came
Knocking
Calling my name
And as a dark nightmare
Within a terrible fever
It was so unreal
As those I loved
Bid farewell
and turned
To go on their way
But In the end
Was still the greatest sorrow
For she was the last
By my side to remain
Our time together
Had been so brief
Though there was no-one
Except myself to blame
For all these words
I would leave unsaid
All these feelings
I would never explain
And then all too quickly
That dead moment came
When I released her
From my last embrace
And looked deep
Within her eyes
dark and beautiful
I so nearly broke
I so nearly cried
Though somehow
I merely whispered
My final goodbye
And as I turned
To walk away
These silent tears
I began to cry
For something precious
I now leave behind
For I am now naked
Without a soul
And through my tears
I heard her whisper
" I know"

Then as the evening wind
moaned through the trees
I heard the ghosts of the lost
Whisper my fate to me
"Go north my child
Unto the land
where winter never ends
Where no angel
Will ever dare tread
There you will find
Your throne of bereavement
There you will find
Your crown of the dead"

Oh my goodness, this touches the core of my heart. I am not fan of dark poems, but this one i really like. I like how it is structured. It left me craven for the next part. Very well done 5/5, kel.

This poem was well written. I guess what caught my eye was the fact that it was really sincere. It was dark, but I also liked that theme because I don't read many dark poems often. Favourite Part:Beneath these careless Stars of night
    Without a hope
    Within my mind
    I merely await

    good job. 4/5

This was amazing. I didn't mind the length at all because it was abstract and interesting and far from boring. The emotion was extremely powerful, and I think the shorter lines helped with this.

    "And then all too quickly
    That dead moment came
    When I released her
    From my last embrace"
^That part blew me away. Like so so powerful. I think maybe because I can relate to it? but still, amazing :)

I didn't really understand the last stanza, but that's probably just me. I'll read it a couple more times and I hopefully will :) haha.

Anyway, this is incredible, and you are a talented writer :)

    5/5 for sure :)

I really enjoyed this poem though I must admit I was put off at first by its length, love the way you drew me in, how many of us have sat at night in dread of the next day when some event has blown us away, unable to find sleeps relief as our mind won't stop to let us. The parting and the realisation was well written though the end was a surprise I look forward to the follow on. Excellent poem which as you said took three reads to find the flow well worth it. 5/5 Ray S

^^ very hearfelt lines...I could feel the loneliness and sadness you have tried to depict here... well penned...

    //"Go north my child

    Where no angel
    Will ever dare tread
    There you will find
    Your throne of bereavement
