The Shoe Box

by Nikoshiana   Sep 10, 2009

I never thought, that you,
and I,
would end up in a cardboard box.
*Sigh*

A simple cardboard box,
Not spectacular in colour
But in it there sits you...
Set apart from any other.

Photographs, momentos,
A sentimental card
Carefully placed trinkets,
A little red love heart.

A poem, and a picture,
my head upon your shoulder,
Little things to re visit
As i am growing older.

A christmas card with kisses
And memories I recall,
A simple button from your shirt
So delicate and small.

Things to trace my fingers across
Just from time to time,
A chance to feel you near me,
Now your no longer mine.

A diary that I kept of
The day you broke my heart,
Tattered, torn, and tear stained,
Yet wrenching from the start.

A valentines card that pains me
Everytime that it is read,
"Soulmates at last united"
That was what you said.

Memories now all tucked away
As i am faced with my truth,
That this simple little shoe box
is all thats left...
of you.

What a very lovely write. Sometimes memories may be all we have but it is the smallest things that keep us going. Excellent write. I wished I had come across this earlier to have nominated it. Beautiful write.

    Take care,
