Swiftly the wind had moved her hair
It stung her eyes to look straight ahead
It was the moment that she awaited
The minutes, she knew she would dread
As she turned her eyes to face him
She could see he was already upset
Unsettled as she was, she had to toughen up
Now or never as they say
Now, or no end to her lies
She gazed into his puppy dog eyes
knowing she would be the first to cry
She knew she shouldn't pull away,
Away from his dark brown eyes, into the real world
She had to do it; and she had to do it now
She held her breathe to speak;
Only to be caught with sudden pain
Words of affection spilled from his mouth,
And she slowly tasted guilt on her tongue.
He loved her so much
And for a moment, she felt she couldn't do it
Not to him;
he who was so innocent
As she fell into a daze,
she felt comfort wrap around her
And in that length of time,
She allowed herself to do the same
It may be the last
Though all she wanted was it last
So suddenly as it shorted to its end,
she came back to face his eyes
and she knew there was no turning back
though the pools in his eyes sparkled more than they had before
she felt the need to stop lying
to herself
and to him
Every word she had practiced
all the plans she had laid
vanished
unclear, and undecipherable
she couldn't remember
so she winged it.
She let her nerves take over
In the same way it started, it ended
Quickly, and unthought through
She had done what she needed to do
and turning now, was the time to
but she needed one last embrace
She wanted to know her words would come true
She wanted to still be friends
Time quickened without notice
and the wind had seeped through her hair
she had finally turned around
She had passed her finish line
Yet for some reason,
the pang of pain still hung over her
I had broken his heart.
Would he ever really forgive me?
