Last Magic Summer

Last Magic Summer

The giant Elm's branches laden with silvery leaves. Some so heavy they
gently touched the ground with their burden. Providing us with a
perfect hideaway just big enough for two. How many beautiful summer
days we spent there, hidden from view; sprawled on your soft blue
blanket, enjoying the shade, compliments of our friend.

Soft breezes playing music as they rustled through branches thick with
foliage. We'd lay there for hours locked in each others arms, taking
in all the sounds around us. Singing birds, buzzing insects, the
distant laughter of playing children....once in awhile a croaking
frog, which would always make me giggle. You would kiss my forehead,
smiling, pulling me closer, pressing my ear to your chest. The beating
of your heart became my music that last summer day, before we moved on
from our carefree childhood. Sometimes I think it was a dream or a
novel read in previous years.

Two years after your death I visited our hideaway. The beautiful Elm
still stands, just no longer in the field of wild flowers and weeds.
It now shades someone's home. Children play among the branches, where
we once spent so much time. I had to go under those branches one more time just to see. Tears filled my eyes when I saw the heart with our
initials still remained, where you lovingly carved them so long ago,
on our last magic day of summer.

A nice touching write and it fits well with the others you have penned. they are always filled with true emotion. May your elm live long and prosper where the initals of your love grow old.

To walk down memory lane and retrace those step we once took with the one we love can bring peace to our soul in many ways. And though they may be gone the little keepsakes of the heart will remain forever.

This beautiful poem pulled me into the sad dreamy scene that you have painted. The death of a loved one is a bitter cross to bear. Is this based on a true event in your life?

I loved it! You know... this made me sad but again I'm happy to see the power of love. This is what made you write the poem. Absolutely wonderful.
