Getting Over It

by iLYSSA   Sep 20, 2009

Staring down at my feet,
looking at the holes in my shoes
as I wiggle my toes.
thinking of you
and what you had left me with;
feelings of uneasiness
and insanity.
it's been years down the road
and I find myself standing here,
jaded as hell.

but as time went on
I find myself letting you fade.
waves of life crashing into
my rocky heart
and eroding what once
used to be us.
i battled with love
over and over,
and though i am still alive,
i came out black and blue.
i now know i can make it without you
because an old thought used to be that
i could never get over you,
but then i also thought
it would last forever.

so even if i find myself standing here
thinking about it,
it's not so much of a big deal
because I've made it without you,
and i can continue to make it.
and even if i may catch myself
having those thoughts,
i can now say, i miss you,
but just a little bit.

This is such a beautiful poem. At first, I wasn't quite sure what you were getting at. But as I re-read it, I understood very well. What I really love about this is the knowledge behind it. The meaning. Even though you miss what you had, you can do without. I love it. Very inspirational. Nice write 5/5
