I Can Remember Marching

by Scott E Buttross   Jun 15, 2004

I can remember marching
in the ranks of another time
Heart taken
By a loyalty that binds
All purpose was clear
This wisdom was mine.
But when I lost this cadence
I found myself blind.

A cadence was heard
One of no fear
It brought us together
And forever was clear

Lead by a voice
Heard by all near
My cadence was born
March on level
From here.

This boot was worn
A metrical foot
Taken to front
From where I stood

Dress and cover
Was always the same
A parallel life
From where I came

Front and center
Eyes look ahead
My futures unseen
Caught in Murphy’s bed

Instill these dreams
Forever they taught
subsist within
A step I once sought.

Rank of another
Tangent dreams diminish
It is true for all things old
This cadence would finish
Recollect for wisdom
Loyalty grows cold
If only to remember
Of the purpose it told.
