Abandoned Alliances

by Poet on the Piano   Sep 21, 2009

I follow a youthful forest path,
Leading me to unknown lands,
Where there was once war and wrath,
And unrelenting commands.

I hear sonorous bagpipes play,
Signaling near by fields,
I sense foreboding disarray,
As villagers draw their shields.

Vibrant drums echo around,
Addressing the coming of war,
Speaking with a voice profound,
As warnings they outpour.

Infuriated cannons shout,
Unleashing their opinion,
I hide with utmost doubt,
Running from dominion.

I taste remains of vast fires,
As the summer sky does burn,
I asphyxiate from what expires,
While I am choked with concern.

I fall back into blindness,
My soul entirely depleted,
As I dream hastily of kindness,
And wonder why it was defeated.

This was written for an English extra credit assignment. I was supposed to write on my experience at Johnny Appleseed and my teacher said to be very creative. I walked on a forest path connecting all the vendors and this is what it reminded me of. In the background, drums and bagpipes could be heard. I hope you liked this piece, thank you for reading.

Wow this was absoultely amazing. Interesting how anything can inspire us these days to write a poem. This was absolutely excellent, no words really to say to this one. I did in particular love the line about the summer sky burning, that was really good in my eyes. Well done, hope you did well on your assignment. :]

You drew a very vivid picture, MaryAnne..well done!

    Just this stanza:
    Vibrant drums echo around,
    Addressing the coming of war,
    Speaking with a voice profound,
    As warnings they outpour.

    ^^

The rhyming in the last line seemed a little forced.

But you did a good job with this, good wording, imagery, yes, good job!

    God bless:)

    5/5 Ingrid
