But Only the Boy Knew [Ballad]

by Kayla   Sep 30, 2009

A mother of two, dazed and confused,
Confronted her husband about cheating.
He got mad, turned a hot red,
The poor woman was in for a beating.
But only the boy knew.

Out of anger, the woman lashed back,
Suddenly had the nearest object in hand.
She smashed him in the skull, out of control,
The man would never again stand.
But only the boy knew.

The body was hidden, the kids lost a dad,
The mom claimed that he just went away.
But the oldest son knew so much better,
Mom didn't know why he began to stray.
But only the boy knew.

This is a ballad I wrote in my English class at school about a husband and wife that got into it because she thought he was cheating on her. Out of anger, he hit his wife. She was so shocked and taken over by anger and fear, that she grabbed the nearest object in the room and beat him too death with it. She told her children that he decided to move away and never come back.

I wish I could write like you, something so crisp and clear, complex yet simple.

Touching, with a good grasp on such a situation.
