Intruder At My Door

by Angie   Oct 8, 2009

Intruder At My Door

darkness closes in
suffocating, chest tightens
skin moist, clammy
shaking from within

moon rides high above
casting shadows on the wall
eerie sounds of an old house
mingles with uneven breath

waiting, knowing
at the stroke of midnight
you'll be here again
lurking, prying

a routine I should be used to
each night as I lay in bed
eyes tightly closed
craving sleep

pleading for you to go away
but still you come
trying hard
to retrieve what was lost

well, you'll not have it again
never, no more
cowering under my blankets
has finally come to an end

I'm taking control now
so go back where you belong
no longer will you be
an intruder at my door

Sometimes not knowing what lurks in the shadows can be eerie...taking control is the best step. I liked the flow this piece & could feel it throughout. Well done Munchkin!!
