A Misconstrued Self-Portrait

by Indian Comma Bean   Oct 11, 2009

October's breath sinks within my lungs
Taking lonely thoughts on its retreat.
Catatonic eyes shiver with distress
Scouring a sordid mind for answers,
I find a similar shade of darkness
Dripping within my heart -

A sound I know is just the start.

Achromatic dreams leave me hopeless,
I lie here lest my soul may drift away,
May it fade into the anxious hands of night
Eager to expel the blood of Apollo.
I find fleeting reflections glint across my eyes,
Pallid hues dancing slowly in the sky -

A scene leaving stricken eyes to cry.

Forlorn rifts divide my conscience
Framing sorrow like a photograph,
Vacant smiles and absent tears arise
Hiding desperation underneath the flesh.
I find the truth tattered at the edges,
Signs of abuse, but there's still hope -

A simple word, the method to cope.

A very in-depth poem and although at times I may have not fully grasped each and every word, I do know that in the end you found hope to cope with and reading your thoughts inspired me. You are a wonderful poet and I hope you never give your gift up, thank you for the read.

God bless you, Child of God!
