Shadow Hunters (Collab)

Quiet as nightfall, silver-gray shadows hunt.
Scents ride the whisper of a northerly wind.
Persistently, they follow an aromatic map,
deliberating, two keen minds think as one.

Alpha pair, hunters of the pack stalking prey,
while others stand watch with vigilance,
protecting the young wolf pups,
waiting for the lone howl to signal a kill.

Successful, exhausted the couple return,
slow, unwary rabbits today's feast.
Eating their fill, wearily succumb to sleep,
relinquishing remains to the pack.

Hunger abated, subordinates surround
the mated pair, with noses up against them,
howling, in resigned submission, hierarchy persist.
Foraging the countryside, begins anew.
