A Smile for You

by Brandy   Oct 16, 2009

I remember,
when my heart was learning new love,
Yellow daffodils kissing our eyes
and their bright sunshine making us laugh
out loud,
holding our own separate innocence...

I remember,
when my heart was held by you alone,
Ceramic tiles beneath our freezing feet,
and the warmth of wintry
weekends,
alone in our pajamas
playing pat-a-cake and peek-a-boo
for half the day...

I remember,
when my heart had not considered
that you might never need me,
Sleepless nights of fevers
and unbearable tears of helplessness
drying
once I could only hold
your sleeping, healing hurt...

And tomorrow,
when my heart just needs to smile
for you,
I want to remember...

the brilliant light of your curious eyes
and be reminded then
of every blessing I have ever known from you
