Here In The Desert

by Good Enough   Oct 16, 2009

My heart will not beat another soundless thud
While the fire flies swim through the darkest night
My body plastered in still framed view
Falling forward colder, belted in feverish numb
Coyotes whisper their sweet love song
Seeking out blood candy deserted and alone
My ears strain to listen to their cry longer
But my body lays here, empty and cold
A night owl soars high above the salty land
Searching for those brave mice that stay out at night
Who scurry along the dead brush, hoping to find a crumb
But to the mouse's surprise he flies away in eager claws
I watched them both fly high in this moonless night
For that was my last sight of this world
As I finally liead dead here in the desert
