The Fearless Acrobat ( nine lives of a cat)

by kelleyana   Oct 19, 2009

Landing on safe feet each time I fall,
makes me recall all that I've been through.
Even after all the pain with gentle rubs I purr;
I am an intrepid explorer, the fearless acrobat.
After all, a creature with nine lives can afford to take risks.

From a window I was thrown without breaking a bone,
Yet, from ancient times my instincts returned
making me turn upright to lessen my fall,
While I remembered not all cats are this lucky,
thank goodness I land on my feet once more.

Now, I find myself in awe of this creature
that understands my needs,
As I twitch the tip of my tail with a smile
on her face she knew it's time for a meal.

Being pampered, I like to eat;
I'm happy with cream,
milk, fish anchovies and such.
Holding my tail high,
she knew I'm content then on her lap,
I take my nap.

Sometimes I brush my face
along my guardian's cheek
to manifest my love and affection.
Letting her know that I'll always be
her treasured feline friend.

The way she regards me
is measured by the purity of her heart,
as she massages my tense body
slightly with her finger tips,
then strokes my fur with love,
I fell into a deep sleep.

I felt the beginning two stanzas were awesome but as the poem went on it kind of lost its power. The way you explained how a creature with nine lives could afford to take risks was excellent. Most people have pets especially cats because they're easy to take care of so most people can relate to this. Nice work 5/5

Once I had a cat too and whenever she did this, I got goose bumps all over..these animals are so soft and it is easy to love them..although I am more of a dog lover, I do appreciate cats for their intellingence and the way they can make your heart melt by showing their affection.

Lovely write, I enjoyed it very much:)

    God bless:)

Kel... I am reading you after such a long time :)

From a window I was thrown without breaking a bone,
Yet, from ancient times my instincts returned
making me turn upright to lessen my fall,

These lines make me wonder at the life we lead... we fall and then stand up again... some are strong enough to endure all... some bend with each failure...

    The way she regards me
is measured by the purity of her heart,
as she massages my tense body
    slightly with her finger tips,
then strokes my fur with love,
I fell into a deep sleep.

    lol... lucky cat :)

    well penned...
