Lonesome George... (the last Turtle)

by Dreamofolwin   Oct 20, 2009

(This is a collab that was written for a club contest, where the subject of the poem was an animal. George is the last turtle of his kind, about to become extinct )

I always wondered, why do they stare at me so?
Pointing fingers and shooting flashing lights
as I exist in my encloseure,
'Its Lonesome George,' the small ones say,
thirty years of this tedious routine,
Has steadily dulled my senses like anestitic

I want to escape this dull routine...
This life I live alone everyday, I have no friends.
Except the faces that continually stare at me,
Glare at me, and then walk away.
Leaving me alone...
Without a place to call my home,
Without a friend, when will it end?

Such a sad poem. I feel bad for ol' Lonesome George, looking forward to death as a release from his wretched existence. Nice poem that tugged at my heart strings.

That is so touching...poor turtle living his life all alone...
you have beautifully described the feelings of a lonely turtle...the sadness and the loneliness felt by it...
how often we stare and click these poor animals... without realising what they are going through...

//Without a place to call my home,
Without a friend, when will it end? //

these really touched my heart... very beautifully penned :)

I was wondering if you were ever going to share this with everyone else. It's such a sad poem but reality for some poor creatures.
Nice flow written with intelligence. Loved it

There is a sadness about this turtle which
makes us think that they too have feelings
we can relate to..a touching write.
