My Handsome Enemy

by Spirit   Oct 22, 2009

I must hate and despise you. You are my enemy.
I must turn the other way whenever I see your face.
I can't kiss you, can't love you, and you can't love me.
I can't want you, can't need you, can't wish for that embrace.
As water is unable to unite with oil,
I will never be allowed to love you my dear.
Never allowed to keep you within my coils,
Else my desires shall become my greatest fears.
But if all circumstances were, perhaps, to change.
If, and only if, my enemy you were not.
If by chance my hopefuls brought you nearer my range.
Perhaps my dreams, perhaps my . . . perhaps, or perhaps not.
____For what I believe I need, won't change the way things are,
____And the fact that we love each other, won't give us different stars.

I really liked this. The concept is so new and creative. I love the way you started this. It makes it very clear wht you and this person can't do and that adds depth to the poem. Most people would take a more cliche approach to this but you didn't and that makes me smile. I love the imagery and the simple words you use. I also like the metaphor you used with "oil and water" I think you did a wonderful job with this piece. It's short and to the point and doesn't sound like it's been done before. Very nice job hun. Most people think that love no matter how strong it is will be reason enough for that relationship to last forever. Most people are fools and have never really experienced true love, they mistake the "lust" for something greater. It takes a lot of hard work and sacrafice to make it work.... a lot of desire haha its not such a bad thing.... great job 5/5
