Look What You've Done

by The Lady of Shalott   Oct 26, 2009

All day long,
she checks her phone,
To see if he's texted or called.
But, no, she's still a l o n e.

The beautiful eyes,
that once stole her heart,
Haunt her every dream...
it's tearing her a part.

Trying to forget,
the days that they had,
she tosses back another shot.
Now, she doesn't feel so sad.

One after another,
they burn a path down her throat.
She wonders if he even read,
the letters she wrote.

But she doesn't care,
she can't feel a thing.
She's filling her heart,
with liquid novacaine.

The room starts spinning,
her body slams to the ground,
she wants to call out,
but there's no one around.

Lying on her back,
she begins to aspirate.
Then her phone chimes,
about 10 minutes too late.

Deep in her heart,
she knows who it's from.
& Her last thought is...
Look what you've done...

Very powerful poem about how just a phone call can change the outcome of things. I thought the flow was steady and the rhyme scheme fit together well enough.

    "But she doesn't care,
    she can't feel a thing.
    She's filling her heart,
    with liquid novacaine."

A wonderful depiction of how substance abuse can seem like the right choice to aid in depression while also showing the consequences of what it can do. Very insightful. 5/5.
