Dreams

by bob   Oct 27, 2009

When I was a boy I dreamt almost every night
Of building spaceships and taking flight
Scoring goals and hearing cheers
Exploring caves and new frontiers

As a young man I dreamt almost every night
Moving up the ladder my goals all in sight
Sweet dreams of success to advance my career
Not reaching my goals was my greatest fear

Now I am older those dreams are all gone
My dreams are unwelcomed I look forward to dawn
The dreams that come now I'm unable to pursue
I dream I am him, laying there next to you

As one gets older you see that the dreams you had during your childhood were exactly that....childish dreams...then when your old enough reality hits you...and it hurts....you portrayed that in this poem...well written.

Whoa. This describes perfectly the wants of people and how they change in time.. The ending was a surprise and a little saddening. sometimes there are things we just can not change. We have to accept that the world is not ours to manipulate and control.. good job!- kayla

A short but nice piece, I like the progression of each stanza through the ages. Nice job.
