Just Your Friend

by Danielle   Oct 28, 2009

I could go to sleep and maybe wake up a millionaire
I could even dream that you're here by my side
And pretend that it's me kissing you
I could say all the right things
And you'd laugh

I could hide my eyes
And tell myself, she didn't make you cry
I could tell myself
She's nothing in your eyes
And I'm more then just your friend

I could even pretend it's all okay
And you'll come to me with tears in your eyes
Saying she's done it again
And I'll go on pretending
That I'm fine and I don't love you
I might even smile, nod my head
Tell you it will be alright
And I'll go on pretending

I could wake up
And dream you're here
Standing by my side, with tears in your eyes
And I'll catch them in the palm of my hands
I could even wash you free
Whisper, I love you
But I'm just your friend
So I'll wait for you
And go right on pretending

I could go to sleep
And dream you were here with me.
And when I'll wake
I'll still just be your friend.

So true. Sometimes it can be difficult being "just a friend" of someone who you have fallen for. This write was emotionally driven and really allows the reader a glimpse of what you experienced. I loved the descriptions and how vivid the imagery was.

    "I could wake up
    And dream you're here
Standing by my side, with tears in your eyes
And I'll catch them in the palm of my hands
I could even wash you free
    Whisper, I love you
    But I'm just your friend
    So I'll wait for you
    And go right on pretending"

This stanza, I felt, was especially powerful. It touches on the most difficult part of mere friendship, wanting to tell them how you feel and yet, knowing inside that it would be irresponsible of you to put that on them. Absolutely wonderful job. 5/5
