I Will Not Dance

by ntv650   Oct 30, 2009

I will not dance, when the hall is clear
The speckled disco ball as it dangles
Glitters and shimmer futilely

Nor will I dance, amid a crowd
Among exciting smells and touches
That tempt only the dull

Dutch courage tempts me no more
Than my friends now on the floor
Fully inebriated, calling me to join

'Oh you buffoons you pathetic sods!
Look at the pretty sober girls
Pretending to be drunk!

And pretending not to care
When minds, already convinced:
Lords of the dance declare!'

Now the Shepherd of the beat
Master of Ceremonies grins
And your feet do bleat

Final emancipation is at hand
The long kept inhibitions
Harvest fruit from society's plant

And Pretty sober girls are groped
And Inebriated boys do fight
No, I will not dance tonight.

You were recommended to read and it was well worth it. I enjoyed this very much. The flow/cadence is good and the message very powerful. Well done.
