This Body's Ashes.

by AwingAshes   Nov 2, 2009

Flames of Beauty.

The ashes are beautiful,
as the heat remains
of that fire that burned
this body away.

The ashes, they've stained
the white cloth I wear --
forever reminding me
of memories still clear.

The ashes, I watch
as the smoke fills my lungs,
enveloping me with peace
that I'm sure is to come

to the soul of these ashes
that peace will return,
of their time on Earth
in which I hope I'm remembered.

The ashes, they cool,
as I continue to stare
at what is left of that body --
how quickly destroyed.

These ashes tattooed
to the back of my eyelids,
as the images unfold
of eldest son setting flame.

The ashes remind me
of tradition never lost,
as I stare blankly
upon this barren land.

Awing are these ashes,
as their spirit fills up
this land so bare;
here, I am emotionless.

The ashes are beautiful --
mirroring the very soul,
of that fire that burned
this body away.

First I would like to say there was a consistent flow of your words, they seemed to move on to higher heights like flames. I loved the emotion that stood in between the lines, it was so eminent and spoke out to the reader. The imagery was there also and you gave just about every thought that passed through your mind. This brought the reader so close to being in your footsteps.

Excellent work, I have no suggestions.

Yay you used my title. A very wonderful piece. Nothing I read matched this, that's why it won. Such detail and the imagery was flawless. A very well done piece. You really understood the use of fire and I love the creative way you wrote about it. Amazing work deary :) Nik
