One Green Leaf

by Lady Nik   Nov 6, 2009

A tree stands tall against a
snowy backdrop. Winter
is here again. Snow covers the
top of this unknown tree.
Birds build their nest..
Wishing to keep warm.

Leaves of orange and red
fall swiftly to the ground
as the winter wind sways.
They never stood a chance
at a new life in this harsh
season. I watch this spectacle
from my bedroom window.

I hear a soft humming from
a small blue bird. I notice
that at the very top of this
tree hangs one green leaf.
If I were the little blue
bird I would tell the green leaf
to hang on. To not be changed.
To not fall and mix with
the other forgotten leaves.

The little blue bird goes away
but the green leaf remains.

This was kind of simple but I liked it. When I was reading it I compared it to growing up or being in high school. Everybody starts to smoke or head down the wrong path, everybody you've been friends with for so long and you fight so hard not to fall down into what they've become. Not really a nature poem kind of guy but this was differant and cool. 5/5 I hope the little green leaf doesn't start smoking :p

This read like a story to me...and as if the person watching this scene wrote the poem as they watched it. I can't say this is my favorite, but it's okay. I think the last two lines were the most powerful.

Nik, wonderful. What a nice view you must have from your window. You captured the essences of fall in your words. Well done.
