Homeward Bound

by Brad Champagne   Nov 13, 2009

I see the hills and empty fields
Encased in dusty hue
The morning sun above them all
A warmth and peace imbue

A year of fight and restless night
Now nearing to complete
Finds both the best and worst of times
Through the mind doth repeat

Waiting, yearning, returning home
To those they left behind
The life they lived at brother's side
Eternal bonds forever bind

Family, friends, lovers, and all
Eagerly awating
The fog of war can now begin
Silently abating

The visions never truly gone
Nor story forgotten
Fighting for what we all hold dear
Liberty begotten

This morn of promise shining bright
Through the enshrouding haze
Giving hope to those drug through Hell
It's over now in numbered days.
