Treasures Don't Make Up for Loving Measures

*** This was a Writer's Craft assignment, the first poem is what we were given, and my poem was the reply to the Shepherd. Please comment on the second one only :) .

The Passionate Shepherd to His Love

Come live with me and be my love,
And we will all the pleasures prove
That valleys, groves, hills and fields,
Woods, or steepy mountain yields.

And we sit upon the rocks,
Seeing the shepherds feed thier flocks,
By shallow rivers to whose falls
Melodius birds sing madrigals.

And I will make thee beds of roses
And a thousand fragrant posies,
A cap of flowers, and a kirtle
Embroided all with leaves of myrtle;

A gown made of the finest wool
Which from our pretty lambs we pulll;
Fair lined slippers for the cold,
With buckles of the purest gold;

A belt of straw and ivy buds,
With coral clasps and amber studs:
And if these pleasures may thee move,
Come live with me, and be my love.

The shepherd swains shall dance and sing
For thy delight each may morning:
If these delights thy mind may move,
Then live with me and be my love.

The Nymphs Reply (Treasures Don't Make Up for Loving Measures)

Well you see, my dear shepherd,
I would and could, but I know better.
You yourself don't even know;
Broken promises are all you wrote.

I'm sure you'd buy me lovely dresses,
But why wear them to clean up messes?
And what good use are pretty shoes,
To saunter through the farmland ooze?

I love the softness of all the sheep,
And I'm sure that they'd be fun to keep;
But so much land means too much work,
And all that time you're just not worth.

Flowers just don't last that long,
And soon enough they'd all be gone.
All the posies and every rose,
Will like your words just decompose.

You offer me those sparkling diamonds,
So what is that you hide behind them?
You try woe me with all your treasures,
Why not with more loving measures ?

I'm not that young or that naive;
Your trap just don't appeal to me.
I'm sorry to say that I decline,
Another nymph you'll have to find.
