The war goes on.

Open arms, open hearts- sometimes love
can be where understanding starts
if you would, for a time try on someone else's shoes
what would you find?

Reason for their actions
what makes them unique
Why they are the way they are
-the purpose for their heart beat

The cold, bitter... angry old man
Who lost his leg in Vietnam
his wife just recently died
and he's left alone wondering why

all you see is the empty shell
while he is fading in his personal hell
what would a warm touch do?
maybe even a simple hug
A kind gesture could help him see through
the storm raging inside
the ever burning questions
running rampant in his mind

another person, another hurting soul
pieces of them have been torn away
never again to be whole
they live silently, inside dying
slipping into an unthinkable place
filled with self loathing and justifiable hate
That is what they live with
every day, hour, minute
them thinking
What have i done to deserve this?
why couldn't thing have unfolded differently
why isn't the love of my life still with me
why couldn't it have been me instead?
the one to fall asleep and never wake up
Why was I the one to wake up and find her dead?

would you want to live that way?
to feel unloved, lost, worthless..
wouldn't you want someone to care enough-
to try and help you through?

when love starts and judgment ends
this is when healing can finally begin
when we realize it's impossible alone
to break free from the shackles- that bind us so
to realize you have two hands to reach out
and touch the hearts of those who've forgotten love
and the feelings it brings
the happiness, a glowing beautiful thing
would you be willing to give of yourself
to save the life of someone else?....
