The Lady Down the Street

by sMiLe LiKe YoU MeAn It   Dec 13, 2009

There is a lady that gazes out of her front window
What she could possibly be looking at, no one knows.
But that is simply because no one gives her the chance
To explain what she sees, they just judge her on first glance.
She appears quite old, wrinkles all along her face
Where did those lines come from in the first place?
Or what about those hallow, lifeless, dull grey eyes?
She seems distant and shadowy, this no one denies.
But there is a reason for all of these obvious things
She's missed out on happiness and the beauty it brings.
She had seen it all by the age of twenty-two
Life had left her empty so what could she do?
There used to be times when she had great amounts of hope
But then she saw her brother hanging from that rope.
How could she maintain hoping to any degree,
Her brother's happiness had been her only plea.
8 months later and she had started to slowly repair
But then one faithful fall night, came her greatest fear.
There had been a fatal car accident, the worst imaginable kind
Her parents had been hit by a semi, leaving one dead and one blind.
All her dreams for a brighter future were crushed
As she drove to the hospital where her mother was rushed
In the blink of an eye the rolls of mother and daughter were reversed
She was the one in charge, it was her mother she nursed
She bottled up her emotions and held back her tears
She stayed by her side, in that house for 6 painful years
Until the day her mother passed, she was always there
That day was the day she officially lost everything she held dear.
And until this day she remains in that house, holding on to her past
Gazing out of her window, wondering how much longer the pain will last
She searches the sky for signs of a better tomorrow
Something to save her from all of her sorrow
Relentlessly see searches those stars at night
Until happiness will one day again be in sight.
