Better than I Gave Credit

Better than I Gave Credit

Missing My own Child's Song,
Yet making the recital Late;
Read her recognition set
Early on the program slate!

Sitting through other parents'
Darlings: Merry, some with snap;
Christmas tunes - agony, yet,
Watching her with her bio dad . . .

I see her lay on his shoulder,
See his father's pride sublime.
At last I'm thankful for him,
Bless him, he got her here on time.

I reflect that jealousy
Doesn't slip off its shoes
At my doorstep, but tromps
Conflict on my hearth like ooze

He's better than I credit
And more, he's earned her love
Simply being who he is
As well for what he does.

Such huge Space this child exalts
In all the chambers of her heart,
Housing each of us apart while
Sweeping out our muddy faults.
