They Called Her Ashley As She Turned To Ashes

by Good Enough   Dec 17, 2009

They called her,
"Ashley!"
As she turned to ashes
They called her,
"Sinner!"
As she turned to dust

The rage from the riot
Was fire from hell
Consuming her slowly
with their burning grip
As they grasped her soul

She walked a thousand miles
To freedom, she tried to reach
but the riot caught on fast
With their red, hot, screaming torches
They followed her, deep into the forest

They laid a trap of leaves and sticks
Over the black grave they dug for her
Where she, not knowing, fell, fell, fell down
with the sticks and the leaves, and nothing more
Than tears that sprung the rain fall

The riot and their torches
Circled her grave fast
Anger that poured fro their eyes
Pierced her soul and shattered it
And she was no more

Ashes, ashes, we all fall down

This was very dark & powerful. Each stanza brought something new to the poem as a whole. Looks to me as though youve improved a lot with your poetry. Well done..

The first stanza of this poem was really powerful and catchy to me. but alot of the rest of it just seemed a bit disconected . there was the general theme in it but from stanza to stanza i felt it jumped too much. it had emotion in it but wasnt unified enough for my liking

"Consuming he slowly" he should be her i think
