Hold On

by Timothy   Dec 29, 2009

1st Verse:
In a cold and lonely winter night,
A baby came to make everything all right;
Because my life had been so screwed up,
And I had more than had enough.

But how could I look into those eyes,
And not see my own, and share those cries?
When you think of suicide, you think of yourself,
But holding your own, you have to put those feelings on a shelf.

Chorus:
Daddy, hold on...don't make a choice we'll regret,
The morning will look better, I bet;
It's always darkest before the dawn,
Mama doesn't care what all went wrong....
(Hold on)
We don't care that you ain't famous, and don't have any money,
We don't worry about reputation, and a weak family tree;
It's you we love, and you that we see in our destiny,
It's mama, and baby and daddy makes three....
(Hold On)

2nd Verse:
My baby girl saved my life that night, and she gave me something to focus on in my life,
I looked past the bleak and the bitterness, found my daughter and my wife;
Years later, down the road a piece,
My melancholy had desisted, but my grown girl's had increased.

She cried to me that her husband had cheated and they were going into debt,
And in my mind's eye I saw the little girl on this very porch, practicing her pirouettes;
She wasn't talking quite right, and her words of misery had me unnerved,
I whispered "I love you" to her, and wished with all my heart to take away the pain she hadn't deserved.

Repeat Chorus:
Baby girl, hold on...don't make a choice we'll regret,
The morning will look better, I bet;
It's always darkest before the dawn,
Daddy doesn't care what all went wrong....
(Hold on)
We don't care that you ain't famous, and don't have any money,
We don't worry about reputation, and a weak family tree;
It's you we love, and you that we see in our destiny,
It's mama, and baby and daddy makes three....
(Hold On)
