Saving a life, and failing.

by Just_Andrew   Dec 31, 2009

You were lieing in your bed
with your arms at side
did i mention you were dead
did i mention that i tried.

we dropped you to the floor
and a boy pumped your chest
i ran to the ambulance
i swear i did my best.

we pushed air down your throat
i lifted you with these bare hands
your body shaked to and fro
like a bag of rubber bands.

we dashed through your house
oh, how your loved ones cried
i swear i did my best
i swear i really tried.

then down the driveway
but still up with a bump
there you fall on the stretcher
with a the sound of a thump

my fists punch your chest
with all of their might
number by number
counting away all my fright.

i want you to live
just shoot me a smile
please sir please sir make it all worthwhile.

please wake up
please, dont let go
these moments, they haunt me
more than you'll ever know

from seconds to minutes
from minutes to hours
your lips turn blue,
as i push with more power

needles, nurses, tubes for air
wake up wake up sir, please just be there

shockwaves of life
my soul to your chest
please, sir,please sir
im doing my best

in the hospital
through the door
your lifeless arm
falls to the floor

i pick it up
i hold your hand
onto the bed
your body of sand.

i walk out the door
in the doctors care
please sir please sir
please just be there.

i wait at the rear
for any good word
but the time of death
was all that i ever heard.
