Winter Warm and Summer Cold

by Stephanie Naylor   Jan 1, 2010

Winter warm and summer cold
Don't you wish we'd never get old

Go back to when we were just five
Not a care in the world and so alive

Or maybe back to just sixteen
Back to high school where the girls are mean

Or maybe even twenty one
To clubs and drinking, so much fun

But here i am at sixty three
Wishing for the life of me

That i could be healthy and strong
And live a life thats very long

But cancer has taken that all away
I'm very thankful for everyday

I wish that i could go back and live
and give life all I've got to give

This is a very important poem to me at least for what it is worth as I am of the final genre and your poem brings to the fore what we must all do with our lives. That is live it to the full and not waste what little time we have on this wonderful earth as at my age it is to late to be sorry so all you can do is suck every day dry and live for the moment by giving all you love as much of it as you can while gathering good points on your way. An excellent poem from one so young and worth a 5/5. Life goes on even when an unwanted fiend like cancer appears a lot can be learnt from those who have and the ones who show their true colours at time of need, the true friends and the family members who don;t shy away are worth their weight in gold to the victim of this terrible disease.Ray S

WOW, I love the whole concept of contrast between warm and cold. I also like the fact of how you bring the readers back to how life was, being in the different age band. Indeed illness can shorten our life span. It's also only during then, that we prioritize what we need to fulfill in our life. I saw on your profile that you're 16, well certainly, you have penned it well from a 63 year old point of view. Excellent Job. Keep it up

A very cutesy beginning, with a very powerful ending...This poem is pretty sad but it actually makes one want to appreciate life every day you can. Cancer is a terrible disease and it can obviously happen to anyone....Makes me want to live to the fullest.Great write! I enjoyed it!
