Survival 101

-I haven't written in a long time but Anne Sexton inspired me. Brace yourself.

In my infinite boredom
I have begun to caress my back
Soft like a lovers touch,
I whisper sweet encouragement
To hear from not one lip
And envision myself beloved.

I know better when I open my eyes
Too well able to see my world
One does not expose their back to friend or foe
It is survival 101.

To live with knowledge is responsibility
To live in ignorance is happiness
And love is just an addiction of the worst

The expectation of betrayal is the ability to prepare
Not even a sister is beyond indulgence
Broaden your view and see the world.

I lower my hand from my back
It is survival 101
Yet it seems my survival is only embraced from necessity.
