My Only Comfort Came in Emptiness

I have walked a long ways, in the midst of darkness
No stars or moon light, the nights cold and heartless
Seems like I am the only one that is breathing this air
Which constricts my lungs as it frosts my hair

Dead silence, and a shadowy path to follow
I am lost, yet calm and unafraid. although...
I am all alone in this place that has no others
I can smile truthfully with no fear uncovered

I have found comfort in emptiness
Ever since I was a young boy
I guess dealing with loneliness
Made me realize I never felt joy

I feel no warmth or love from anyone
At least peace exists at the end of any gun

Truth be told I am getting cold
I need your arms to feel comforted
Please unfold your hands to hold me
from finding comfort in emptiness

I sit Waiting and still

there is nothing

Happiness made promises to brighten my day like the sun
So I sit here every morning until the evening comes
Still waiting for that smile, wasting distant time
Walking through the night, alone, cold and unrefined

My shadow tells a million stories of self defeat
Since trying hard to forget that heart ache and loss repeats
I once came near a smile, when I did I held it close
But she slipped away as did my smile and all my hopes

Now I am afraid to get close
Or let anyone get close to me
Heart breaks & shattered souls
have become too familiar with me

and so

I wore a smile and let out a laugh
Hiding the pain that aligned my path
To keep you from knowing the facts
I made you smile as I wore a mask

I am tired of crying to the sky because I am lonely and scared
Only the devil responds because god isn't there
So just hand me the gun
All the pressure will be gone
All the depression will be done
Only love from everyone
As soon as I pass one
