Dear Heart

by Stephanie   Feb 13, 2010

Oh heart, dear heart,
How can you still beat when you are broken in two?
You beat with all your might,
Coursing blood into my veins,
Like a promise never satisfied and unfulfilled

You are amazing, dear heart,
For even though you are torn,
You beat harder than before,
As if you are trying to lift mountains,
Off the weight of your brow
You fight to let the body know your purpose,
To have your say,
In which I am deaf to hear

I pity you, dear heart,
But I can not feel your sympathies
You know all that comes to you are tasks for you alone,
For the rest of me will never feel what broke you
Such as the malicious rains that burrow in your scars,
Covering, suffocating you in the blanket of night,
Without the moon...
It's forever an item on your daily list

Only you know, dear heart,
Why I am still alive
Why you still beat with your snarled pieces,
I can't explain
But, you continue your journey still,
With your heels smashing,
Into fading constellations of stars,
And into the black hole I sometimes call life,
Beating with your voice to somehow reach the sun,
To capture it's rays of light I always call hope

Wow, this is really good. I love how you create a whole new meaning to the heart's rhythmic beat. This is a wonderful job well done! (:
