*This is a rough draft. Any and all comments/opinions are welcome.*

Many years ago when we were friends
We tried to be more, but that's where it ends
It's not your fault, nor is it mine
You can't make love appear at a certain place or time
I know now that your feelings ran deep
But I was never a trophy you got to keep
I'm sorry our paths didn't lead to a shared life
But now I have a husband, and you a wife
Turning back time is an impossible task
And a friendship, here and now, is all I ask
I can't change your mind or whats in your heart
But I think a friendship is a good place to restart
Since we can't change whats already been done
Starting over might turn out to be fun

I know you wrote this long ago I mean posted it a while back and who knows how old it may really be, but the comment about it being a rough draft seems irrelevant because it's a pretty good piece as is. I mean the components are all here and the rhymes do not feel all that forced.
