The sweet hurt in love

by Martin Leach   Jun 17, 2004

We tend to love what hurts us most
We seem to relish the joy of hurt
We are sadistic to ourselves in the cruelest of fashions
We are happiest tormenting or psyche

Our greatest hurt though is LOVE
We find that match
The one we believe can complete us
Make us whole
Be the foil to our blade

This blade has neither scabbard nor hilt
Only the weight, the gleam and the edge
There is only but one place to sheath such a blade
Into the soft flesh of our hearts
Where hurt is best felt easiest remembered
Pain lasts though dulled by time like any blade
Rust that poisons the veins
Makes us want for redemption

Oh!
The sweet hurt in love
Who?
Cannot but love the pain
