Queen of Summer

by Larry Chamberlin   Mar 10, 2010

Men do not hunt
For the Queen of Summer;
Men hunt to forget her.

Some forces in this life
Overwhelm and engulf
Without warning.

The Queen of Summer
Is the fiercest huntress,
Challenging you to beat her.

If you lose, you become
Her quarry, bound and bled,
While whining for more;

If you beat her, heaven
Help you to keep your form,
Lest anteloped, you're trophied.

If you come upon her bath,
Ride quickly through, eyes ahead;
Denial of the insult your only hope.

If you decide to challenge,
Fare thee well; hold back nothing,
For it is then your fate to stand & perish.

I loved the Queen of Summer
Long years past, in my youth.
I was spared to cast these words:

Men do not hunt
For the Queen of Summer;
Men hunt to forget her.
