Black and White

by Tori Hicks   Mar 17, 2010

I look at your photograph.
How shy your eyes are,
Knowing that I'm about to capture this moment on film.
You've just looked up from your book
And you're sitting in the perfect light;
A mix of the flourescents from the book store
Along with the sun glowing in the window behind you.
I smiled as I took that photo
But now I want to cry when I see it.
A month after I took it,
You crushed my world and my heart
At the same time.
Your tears mingling with mine
On the day Heaven shattered
Made it all too real.
I know I cannot wake up in the morning
From this nightmare you've pulled me into.
This is real life.
I can't escape it, no matter how I try.
Now, I don't know where I'm going
With the knowledge you won't be here to guide me.
My plans are up in smoke
And you're up in the air, across the pond, and an ocean away.
No matter how I try to convince you to be mine,
I know my pleas are in vain.
All I have is your photograph,
My love preserved in black and white.

This reminds me a lot of me in a lot of ways. It feels like trying to tell someone to take a deep look inside themselves and to move forward making the best of things.
