Born Free (Octameter)

by Sylvia   Mar 23, 2010

A child running free,
sweet sounds of laughter,
carried on the wings,
of whispering winds.
Untainted by life,
plays games of pretend,
freed by innocence,
youth their only friend.

Inquisitive kid,
eager for knowledge,
exploring all things.
Dreams growing amid
curiosity.
Don't ever forbid,
they won't comprehend.
Unspoiled, they transcend.

Note: Born Free was a movie and a song based upon Joy Adamson's 1960 non-fictional book. Joy and George Adamson, were a real-life couple who raised Elsa the Lioness an orphaned lion cub to adulthood, and released her into the wilds of Kenya. I have choosen to apply Born Free to children and this is for Karla.

Wow, your gift.. better word than talent in my opinion is amazing, incredible and unbelievable; the way every line in all your poems and lyrics just fit together perfectly is just unbelievable.

This art you have crafted from your heart was so touching to mine, and made me envision myself later on as a mother or guardian of children. They are truly today's world and need to be protected, so many are abducted or taken advantage of, but you can really see God's smile upon their soul.

Brilliant portrayal, it was a joy to read!

God bless you and your family always.

    Silvia,

The innocence of a child is the most precious thing of all. You captured this blissful state very well within your verse..

This week a campagne was launched in my country to try and have people speak up about child abuse going on with neighbours and such..I know it goes on and it is a worldwide problem. To take the innocence and the trust away from a young life is by far the biggest and most cruel crime in my eyes.

    A really beautiful poem:)

    God bless,
