Not Who You Think

by Poet on the Piano   Mar 23, 2010

I am an auspicious rose;
yet even my bitter thorns
can be easily penetrated.

I live wholly for love;
though berry tints do fade
my proclamation breathes.

I am more than meets the eye;
simplicity equals beauty
just listen to my altruistic heartbeat.

    Think about removing the word "yet" in the second line.
    What was the basis for choosing "auspicious" and "altruistic" to open & close? Very interesting connotations, but perhaps they could be developed in the middle ground.
