Point Anyone's Finger

by Larry Chamberlin   Mar 26, 2010

An egret lifted from its ditch, flew in front of me,
Avoided death on my car grill by seconds,
Then swooped out and up only to circle back
And settle again in the very spot it started.
{Ignorant of the jolting 'wakening it gave me,
Ignorant I nearly slept behind the wheel.}

Don't ask the Burning Bush for arcane knowledge
(It knows only sacred flames that lick its leaves),
Nor saving bird, guiding occluded star, nor
Even the mysterious helping stranger.
{Each follows their own private path, not knowing
You found in them God's finger pointing the way.}

The truest Path to knowledge must be Felt inside:
The resonance, the unsolicited Knowing,
That occurs the instant the sign is manifest.
This subtle cognition 's often lost in the excitement.
{Attests: "There's no such thing as coincidence."
Yet, you can irrationalize anything.}

    This revision is unusual for me. I realized, however, that in the past twelve years, my opinion on the matter shifted significantly, whether from personal growth I do not know. It could be one of the first signs that I am getting more obstimate in my ways.
    While I was at it, I redesigned the structure to match the new understanding.
