How would I have said goodbye?
I would have looked at you,
And asked just why?
How would I have said goodbye?
I would have looked at you,
And told you, you were a wonderful guy.
How would I have said goodbye?
I can't quite explain it,
All I can do is cry.
I would have held your hand so tight,
It lifeless, limp and white.
I'd kiss your cold forehead,
Remembering the joy you spread.
I'd stroke my finger across your lips,
The memory of that smile would slowly slip.
I would have bent close to your ear,
The last time we would be so near.
I would have whispered, "Goodbye" to you,
Constantly wishing it would not be true.
I'd wake up in the morning,
And just go back to school.
Forget all the mourning.
You'd walk through the doors,
Laughing and joking,
Bragging about the football scores.
But I know that isn't true,
And everyone must stick together,
If we want to get through.
Get through this tragic time,
What a mountain
We must now climb.
