Bittersweet Lullaby

by Kayl   Apr 15, 2010

I tuck you in every night,
hoping and praying you don't wake me in fright.

I whisper 'good morning' as soon as the sun is set to rise,
I hold you in my dreams, and look into your eyes.

Throughout the day, careless thoughts of you.

Memories pass; places we've been.
You finally see me, but only in sin.

Catalyst; we are
Torture; I'm scarred.

Twilight comes; it's almost time.
I think real hard, for a quiet rhyme.

I walk upstairs and back to bed,
that's where I left you, instead.

I whisper thoughts of the day,
throwing pride out of the way.

Pages upon pages, word after word
eyes constantly blurred.

The moon comes out; your senses are heightened
you whisper to me; "baby don't be frightened."

A goodnight kiss for the hundredth time,
a goodbye quote to go with my goodbye rhyme.

I whisper goodnight, hoping this is the last tie.
Alas; it's the same old bittersweet lullaby
