A Struggle With Herself (Eating Disorder)

by Ash   Apr 15, 2010

I'm staring right at her, flaw's from head to toe
She looks right back at me, and i see the pain she refuses to show.

Desperation and lonliness, is what she's gained
Nobody really knows the anger she's keeping tucked away

If only she knew why she did it, why she made herself so ashamed
This is not who she is, it was never supposed to be this way

She steps outside her body, as she watches the event take place
The girl standing over the toilet, is not the girl who holds her name

Who is she, and what has taken over her mind
This torture and these chains that she has to hide

This is no way to live, but why does she live it
She would stop if she had the power, but her disease is what controls her

She hates who she has become, but there's no stopping it now
She feels defeated and bound, by this sin she can't over come

Don't tell her she's beautiful, and dont say she looks good
She won't listen to any part of it, she will twist your words

Whatever it takes, to make her skin and bones
She'll find a way to get there, and noone needs to know

She looks in the mirror, and she will never be satisfied
Day by day she punishes herself, because she is never going to be good enough, in her eyes.

I love this poem. though i have never suffered from the disorder i know people that do and i myself have OCD. i believe that this poem could be a help to others to see that there are others like them and that though that feeling of togetherness they will be able to rise above the feeling of desperation and hatred that causes them to do such things.

You perfectly worded the state someone is in with an eating disorder..
hopefully read this and realise they are not alone.
