I Am.

by Stephanie   Apr 23, 2010

I'm the grown child scraping her knees,
and I'm the woman holding the world.
I'm the Mother Teresa in your hearts,
but no, I'm not that same little girl.

I seep through your memories like a river,
diving into each deep crevice and crook.
I can speak the truth of an angel in heaven,
and I'll have you yearning after every hook.

I'm the novel you cannot break away from,
and I'm the fingertips upon which you touch.
I'm the conniving devil on your shoulder,
And yes, I will push you a bit too much.

I am the essay which your school teacher assigns;
the one you continuously whine about having to write.
Yet, I'm the beautiful words erupting so slowly;
I'll be what makes the fire in your mind ignite.

You can run to me in the darkest of nights,
as you lose yourself in the lucid stars in the sky.
I'm the melody in which you hum to yourself,
and I'm the shake in your hand as you wave goodbye.

Though please remember this, my dear:
I am the sun, the moon, and the universe,
and any kind of structure that may be near.
I've placed you inside of my conscience heart;
You're face is always going to be right here.
(I'll be the ghost, the invisible hand, the love)

I am your daughter,
I am your other half,
I am your best friend,
I am your listener,
And I am the touch.
So lose yourself in me.

[This poem means a lot to me. <3 I entered it into my school poetry contest (which is a brave step for me, haha).

    Great! Heartfelt, many of my own poems reflect my life, the good times and the bad, the joyful and the sad.
    Keep up the good work!
